What is Non Owner Insurance?
Normally car insurance follows the vehicle but the exception to this is a non owner car insurance policy. Non-owner insurance policy follows the driver versus the vehicle. If you don't own a vehicle, you can purchase a non owner insurance policy. This type of policy is most commonly used for drivers who need to file an SR22 to maintain their drivers license when they do not own a vehicle.
However, an SR22 requirement is not the only reason for a non owner insurance policy. It can also be used for those who have access to an vehicle to drive, rent vehicles frequently due to travel or work and drivers who primarily take public transportation but may occasionally drive.
What does a Non Owner Insurance policy protect?
A non owner insurance policy provides liability protection up to the limits you have requested. The minimum requirements for liability protection in Utah is $25,000 for bodily injury up to $65,000 per accident. The minimum coverage for property damage protection is $15,000 dollars. The liability protection helps protect you against financial devastation in the event you are at-fault in an automobile accident whole operating a vehicle not owned by you. What doesn’t Non Owner Insurance cover?
Because non owner insurance is designed to be a liability only policy, it does NOT include collision and comprehensive coverage to cover damages to the vehicle you are driving. You also do get other optional coverage's like rental reimbursement, towing or custom parts/equipment coverage.
If you borrow or rent another vehicle, a non owner policy will not pay for repairs to the car if you are involved in an accident. Your non owner policy only pays for damages inflicted on the other person in an at fault accident after the other person car insurance limits have been reached.
A non owner policy isn't the right choice of coverage if you own a car, you have access to a vehicle in your household, you drive a car on a regular basis, you are using a vehicle for business use and you don't have a drivers license.

A non owner policy is very affordable and much cheaper than normal car insurance policies. However, rates are still determined by your age, gender, your place of residents and your driving history.
